FAA Remote ID Compliance Now Mandatory for All Part 107 Operators

Quick summary

All drones flown under Part 107 must broadcast Remote ID. The FAA enforcement deadline of March 16, 2024 has passed; civil penalties up to $27,500 per violation are now in effect.

Operators must use Standard Remote ID (built into the drone) or attach an FAA-approved broadcast module. Sub-250g drones flown recreationally remain exempt. FAA-Recognized Identification Areas (FRIAs) provide an alternative for non-Remote-ID aircraft. Pilots flying without Remote ID risk fines and possible certificate suspension. The full rule text lives at 14 CFR Part 89.
