Why $39 covers your CFI written
FIA = 60% overlap with your CPL prep
If you’re going CFI, you’ve already passed CPL. Same aerodynamics, weather, regs. The FIA recycles that material from an instructor angle. The All-5 Bundle’s Commercial/ATP question bank gives you the drill.
FOI is conceptual — AI tutor handles it
No charts, no math, no diagrams. Pure learning theory + teaching methods. Claude 4.5 tutor (included) explains every concept with citations to the Aviation Instructor’s Handbook (FAA-H-8083-9B).
If you fail, we extend access 30 days free
Email your score report to hello@rotatepilot.com within 14 days — we extend your bundle 30 more days at zero cost so you can re-study and retake. Real pilot built this. Real pilot supports it.
FAQ
What is the CFI written exam?▾
To become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) you must pass TWO FAA written tests: (1) FOI (Fundamentals of Instructing) — 50 questions, 2.5 hours, covers the learning process, human behavior, communication, teaching methods, and student evaluation. (2) FIA (Flight Instructor — Airplane) — 50 questions, 2.5 hours, covers aerodynamics, weather, FARs, and airplane systems applied to the instructor role. Both require a 70% score to pass.
How long does CFI written exam prep take?▾
Most pilots prep 4-8 weeks of focused study. The FOI is mostly conceptual (no math, no charts) and breaks down to 2-3 weeks. The FIA recycles much of your CPL knowledge from an instructor angle and typically takes 3-5 weeks. Daily 30-60 min of question drilling + reading the Aviation Instructor's Handbook + reviewing FAR 61 is the standard cadence.
Does Rotate Pilot cover the CFI written exam?▾
The $39 All-5 Bundle includes the FAA Commercial / CFI question bank — over 500 questions covering aerodynamics, weather, FAR 61/91, instrument requirements, and CFI-specific endorsement scenarios. The AI tutor handles FOI conceptual questions (learning theory, teaching methods, evaluation) with FAR/AIM citations. We're not a dedicated CFI-only platform like ASA's Test Prep — but for $39 across all FAA tracks you get unmatched value.
What's the CFI written pass rate?▾
FAA published pass rate for the FOI is approximately 88-92% (well-prepared first-attempt). The FIA pass rate is approximately 82-87%. Common failure causes: rushing through scenario questions on the FOI, weak FAR 61 endorsement knowledge on the FIA, and burnout from over-cramming both tests in the same week. Rotate's spaced repetition flashcards counter the burnout pattern.
Should I take the FOI and FIA in the same sitting?▾
Most DPEs and CFIs recommend AGAINST same-day. The FOI is mentally exhausting (lots of scenario reading), and a tired brain costs you points on the FIA. Standard cadence: take FOI on a Monday/Tuesday, take FIA later that week or the following week. Both scores remain valid for 24 months, so there's no rush.
How does Rotate compare to ASA, Gleim, or King for CFI prep?▾
ASA Test Prep CFI books: $35-$50 per test (FOI + FIA = $70-$100, paper). Gleim Online: $89-$139 per test. King Schools CFI: $399 video course. Rotate's Bundle is $39 ONCE for FOI/FIA prep plus all 4 other FAA tracks (Part 107, PPL, IR, Commercial/ATP) plus EASA ATPL plus DGAC TAE — and the AI tutor. The bet: at $39 we're cheaper than any single competitor and we cover the entire career arc.
What about the CFI initial checkride after the writtens?▾
Rotate prep covers the WRITTEN portion of CFI. The initial CFI checkride (with a DPE) is a separate event — typically 8-12 hours of oral + flight, often described as one of the toughest checkrides in aviation. We don't simulate the checkride itself. For that, find a CFI mentor who's done a recent initial. Our role: get you through the writtens efficiently so you have full bandwidth for checkride prep.
I'm a CPL — do I need to retake similar material for CFI?▾
Yes, but with a twist. CFI written content overlaps ~60% with what you already drilled for CPL — same aerodynamics, weather, FAR 91. The new layer is the INSTRUCTOR angle (FAR 61 endorsements, teaching method, evaluation, syllabus building). Treat it as a refresh of CPL material PLUS the FOI's teaching theory.
FOI + FIA. 60 days. $39.
Pass both CFI writtens, then save 90% of your study time for the checkride (where most CFI candidates actually fail). The bundle is the same price as one ASA test prep book.
